Linear Thinking

2 October 2012, Saint Paul

Thoughts are linear in the same way
ancient peoples connected starlight in the sky
to imagine a cup or a big dog

Thoughts are linear in the same way
a lazy trout elevates inches in the water column
to eat a drifting stonefly nymph

Thoughts are linear in the same way
a flowing river wends its way across the land
to dream in vectors of magitude and direction
