One Headlight

Recalling a poet laureate who advised against (1)
confusing narrative with poetic form, this poem
became a story clothed in admonitions. I was
warned for loaning a man my drivers license
so he could get into a bar. And on one occasion
I was pulled over for driving with one headlight.
The officer arrested me on a warrant. I realized
I could be cited for careless driving should I
shear off a cluster of mailboxes.
