True Wilderness

Saint Paul, 25 September 2011

Take notice
of an untouched view
imagine how it would be painted

Notice ornamentation in a facade
ask what is its purpose?

Itemize your senses
Sight? Check.
Sound? Check.
Smell? Check.
Taste? Check.
Touch? Check.

Take notice
of a loved one's face
imagine her face with wrinkles

Notice tendons in her hand
ask what is their purpose?

Leave no impression
cover your footprints
fold your life in a stuff sack
Walk with purpose
into your only chance
at true wilderness
