Boiling River

Boiling River, south of Gardiner, MT  28 August 2011
for Cindy Gipple

I crawled upstream
on all fours thinking
I can't bogart lower pot
in the Boiling River

I palmed a flat rock
in middle pot while
I crouched against
the current, and thought

Thought of the people
who kyped keepsakes
below Obsidian Cliff
necessitating a sign

But I slipped the rock
into my swim trunks warm
against my thigh and
carried it home to you
