White Overalls

Bozeman, March 1980

Eating Western-brand baked beans
In a box car, rolling notations
Irrigation rattlesnakes

Jupiter’s aura
Kerouac’s illicit grandchild
A K-Mart flashlight swings
From twisted twine

Your patina refined
On the Burlington Northern line
A temptress in white
Coal dust on your overalls
