Floating Bodies

Hidden Falls, Mississippi River, St. Paul, 29 March 2015

Floating bodies carry denuded tree limbs
Packing peanuts, pot shards and feathers.
Riverboat tourists disembark at my feet.
Paper boat flotillas. Mallard couples fishing.
Driftwood spinning in eddies. Raptors circling.
Slow motion descent. Furless rodent digits.
Bleached fishbones. Chute less paratroopers.
Archimedes' ratio of nothingness.
Wood floats. Rocks sink.
