Bricks and Ivy

Carleton College, 28 October 2005

We've a bird’s eye view
Of limestone bluffs
When steam converges
On October's tributary

Flying up river
Over wood and stubble
A clock tower advances

It's a dolly shot
Convenes to your cameo
Then jump cut to:
Second hand ticking

We await matriculation
On the hour, every hour
Unattended bells
Shake bricks and ivy

It's a long way back
To the chicken shack
