Canceled Sequel

Saint Paul, 17 May 2006

Questions arose
Conversations in distant rooms
A grand mystery breached

Daylight slits on jet-black scrims
Lacerations in a cloudless vista
Startled strangers changing costume
Friends and family I recognized

Alienation grew
Interlopers trespassed scenes long played out
Estrangement ensued
Rifts in continuity severed trust

Retribution brewed
I donned a top hat and cane
Memorized the lyrics to a show tune
Leapt to the risers to cry out
There's No Business Like Show Business

Astonishment befell
The producer screamed at the director
The choreographer was fired
Drop curtains plunged to the stage
The sequel was canceled

Hell, I’m no Ethel Merman
