Warm Pond Pioneers

Saint Paul, 14 February 2006

A timeworn library chair lit from bare bulb
Wedged between shelves of yellowed hardbacks
Begs you to sit. But gives way so you stand

You choose irreverent books of provocative title
A frontispiece quote hints warm pond pioneers
Sparked to life in hopped up pools of cooling volcanoes

Your epilogue declares your generation's destiny
Uncover evidence to push back the divine
To do otherwise is missing the point
